An incomplete history of Slam

Cindy Salach and Sheila Donohue ( pictured: Green Mill, 1995 ) becameChicago's premiere performance poetry duo by the mid-90s using a very tightly woven multivocal technique. Their performance style evolved from a long thread of previouscollaborations. There are few words to describe exactly what the technique involvesother than to say that the two artists simply speak as one seamless entity, occasionally in [ photo: Salach, Donohue ]alternate words or alternate phrases, occasionally in parallel, but always with a coherencethat only experience and a shared intuition could create.
